Comeback Sauce

Jump to recipe ▼

Ingredients (~7 servings, 2 tablespoons each)

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise (Duke’s or Hellmann’s)
  • 2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp mild chili sauce (I use Heinz)
  • 1/2 tsp spicy brown mustard
  • 3/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp granulated garlic powder (or 1/2 tsp if you like it garlicky)
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/8 tsp freshly-ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 1 1/2 tsp fresh lemon juice, plus more to taste
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp hot sauce, or more to taste

Whisk Everything Together Until Smooth

In a medium bowl, whisk together all ingredients until well combined and smooth.

The mixture will look a little loose at first but comes together quickly.

Let the Flavors Meld for at least 2 Hours

Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but overnight is better.

This resting time lets all the flavors come together – the garlic and onion powder hydrate and the tanginess mellows out.

Taste and Adjust Before Serving

After resting, taste and adjust the seasoning.

Add more hot sauce if you want heat or more lemon juice for extra tang.

Store in the fridge for up to 1 week in an airtight container.

Comeback Sauce

This tangy Southern sauce works great on fried seafood, salads, or as a dip for vegetables. It’s basically remoulade’s cousin with a little more kick.
