Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

Jump to recipe ▼

Ingredients (~24 Cookies)

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup mashed ripe banana (about 2 medium bananas)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 9 oz chocolate chunks or chips

Cream the Butter and Sugars

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth.

Add the vanilla extract and continue to mix.

Add the Mashed Banana

Add the mashed banana to the creamed butter and sugar mixture.

Mix on low speed until combined. The batter might look separated or curdled at this point; this is normal.

Combine the Dry Ingredients

In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, kosher salt, and ground cinnamon.

Mix the Dough

With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until almost combined.

Fold in the chocolate chunks by hand until they are evenly distributed and no dry streaks of flour remain.

Portion and Bake the Cookies

Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Use a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop to portion out the dough. Place the dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, rotating the baking sheets midway through.

The cookies will look a bit puffy when they come out of the oven. For a flatter, more traditional cookie shape, you can bang the hot baking sheet against a heat-proof surface right after taking it out of the oven. This will deflate the cookies slightly.

Let the cookies cool on the pan for 3-5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Banana Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies are a cross between banana bread and a classic chocolate chip cookie. They are soft, chewy, and stay moist for days thanks to the mashed banana in the dough.
